Occupational Work Supervision NVQ (OWS)
Level 3 NVQ - (Gold CSCS Card)
The Occupational Work Supervision NVQ is suitable for experienced individuals, who come from a trade background but now have a supervision role to play within their own occupational area/s. It is an excellent qualification that can be suited to different areas of responsibility.
You should be involved with supervising operatives and assisting with typical site activities i.e., resources and materials on site, quality control, communication with others, H&S processes, etc. An ideal candidate could be a ganger-man, trade supervisor, working foreman.
You will need to demonstrate practical skills in relevant areas of supervision, to prove you have the ability to carry out your work safely and to a good standard. You will also need to show understanding and awareness to prove you have a good level of work-related knowledge and competence.
Process
Unlike many other providers we don’t have mandatory written work, as we often cover this through discussion and verbal questioning.
There is no e-portfolio for candidates to manage, as the assessor oversees the portfolio building.
Your assessor will visit you in your workplace, to collect evidence relating to the qualification being undertaken. Using methods such as observation (watching) and discussion, the assessor will work with you to gather what’s required for your portfolio – these methods of assessment are often recorded electronically. A third-party reference (witness testimony) can be used as another source of evidence, to help confirm your levels of competence and areas of responsibility.
Duration
The timescale between registration and completion varies for different candidates – candidate experience and willingness are key factors here. However, 2-6 months is an achievable duration for competent trade supervisors.
Cost
The standard cost of this Level 3 NVQ is £1025 plus VAT at the prevailing rate. Grant money can be claimed back at completion by companies registered with CITB.
